I. Common Connection Methods
1. Welded Connection
The pipe and fitting are fused together using high heat. This method includes socket weld and butt weld. It offers extremely high connection strength, excellent sealing, and no risk of leakage. However, it is difficult to install, requires specialized equipment and personnel, and cannot be disassembled later. Suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature, or industrial piping systems with extremely high sealing requirements (e.g., chemical, petroleum, food, and pharmaceutical industries).
2. Press Connection
A specialized tool is used to deform the fitting and pipe (typically into a hexagonal shape), working together with an internal O-ring to achieve sealing. Installation is fast, and sealing performance is strong, but the connection cannot be disassembled. Suitable for household water supply, direct drinking water systems, heating systems, etc., especially for concealed or exposed piping.
3. Flanged Connection
Two pipe sections are fastened together using flange plates and bolts, with a sealing gasket placed in between. It offers high connection strength, and its greatest advantage is ease of disassembly and maintenance. However, the cost is higher and it takes up a lot of space. Suitable for large equipment interfaces, valve ends, and industrial pipelines requiring frequent disassembly and maintenance.
4. Threaded Connection
Connection is achieved through the tight fit of male and female threads. Installation is simple, requires no special equipment, and has low cost. However, sealing performance is relatively weaker, and it is prone to loosening under long-term vibration or thermal expansion/contraction. Suitable for small-diameter (typically DN50 and below), low-pressure, room-temperature piping systems, such as instrument connections or temporary installations.
5. Grooved (Clamp) Connection
A groove is machined at the pipe end, and a clamp with a sealing gasket is used for quick connection. Installation is extremely fast, does not damage the galvanized layer, and is removable. However, pressure-bearing capacity is limited. Suitable for fire protection systems, agricultural irrigation, and large-diameter (DN50 and above) low-pressure water supply and drainage systems.
6. Compression (Bulged) Connection
A nut is tightened to compress a sleeve and sealing ring. This is a union-type connection, convenient for maintenance and replacement of the sealing ring. However, the cost is relatively high. Suitable for cold water systems and water treatment equipment, and for exposed piping. Generally not recommended for hot water or concealed systems.
